A little about us...
Edmund Rice Camps Tasmania is a state-wide, not for profit, volunteer driven organisation that provides young people with unique social experience and activities. The camp participants involved in our programs are aged between 8 – 15 years, and come from a variety of backgrounds and locations around Tasmania. Each participant is paired up with a young adult leader, promoting positive interaction, as well as the opportunity for the development of friendship and trust. Participants and leaders come away from our programs feeling motivated, having learnt a little about themselves, about people and about approaching life with a 'can-do' attitude.
Volunteering at Eddie Rice
We provide a nurturing environment and safe environment for the children participating in our camp programs. The participants come with their own stories, some positive and some negative. It is our role to make these children feel as special as possible for the time that they are with us. Our volunteer leaders are outstanding young adults and during our programmes are able to facilitate social, emotional and intellectual development within the young participants. It may not be evident immediately and you may think that you could not possibly make an impact, but as one of our wise leaders shared:
"A waterfall starts with one drop of water. The time that we have with the participants is short but our influence may be felt for a lifetime."
Not only do our participants grow from the experience, so do our volunteer leaders. It doesn't matter if you have done one camp or 21 camps; you always come out with a feeling of fulfilment as you have made a difference in the young life of child.
Volunteering roles include the coach, captains, group leaders, leaders, cooks, first aid, life guard, bus driver and even specialist activity coordinators.
